THE Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has denied throwing its weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode, as touted in some quarters.
President of the body, Olumide Akintayo, in a statement said the professional body remains apolitical, even its quest to champion national development, through espousing ethical values in public interest.
Akintayo said instead of expressing support for any candidate, “the PSN (Lagos Chapter) had rather sent goodwill messages to all the gubernatorial aspirants it could identify their campaign offices in Lagos State.
The president said their attention was, however, drawn to a publication that “Lagos State Chapter of the PSN has thrown their weight behind the APC Governorship Candidate Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and also prayed for his success at the polls”.
To set the record straight, Akintayo said: “The PSN for the records is one of the oldest organised professional bodies in Nigeria having been founded in 1927. We have never been partisan on the PSN template even when we have championed national development through espousing ethical values in public interest.
It is still a better option for professional bodies to remain neutral.
