Man has worm removed from his leg after mistaking it for varicose vein after trip to Nigeria

A 42-year-old Chinese man spotted what seemed like a varicose vein on the side of his foot after returning from a holiday in Nigeria. He went to the doctors to have it examined and got a rude shock. He was carrying a worm around in his foot.

Medics at the Peking Union Medical College, in Beijing, examined his foot and found a red, raised tract with a wavy margin.

They told the patient he had a cutanteous larva migrans, a parasitic skin infection caused by hookworm larvae, living in his foot.

The parasite cannot burrow deeper into the skin and is visible just beneath the outer skin, the disease is common in tropical countries and is normally seen on the feet, back, buttocks, thighs, or abdomen.

Commercial Drivers To Begin Compulsory Psychiatric Test - FRSC

THE Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, has disclosed that compulsory psychiatric test will be introduced as part of requirements for certification of commercial drivers in Nigeria.
Oyeyemi made this known on Wednesday in Abuja, at a technical meeting with stakeholders on the proposed implementation of Speed Limiters by commercial vehicles effective June 1, 2015.
He said the Corps was also re-evaluating driver’s licence administration with proposal for re-introduction of psychiatric test for the commercial drivers.
“It is going to be compulsory because before you get your driver’s licence, we need to be sure that you are sane,” he said.
The technical session was held with representatives from the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), National Automotive Council of Nigeria (NAC), Nigerian Society of Engineers, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State and FRSC, among others.

Harmattan: Why Do We Sleep More?

Dusty Harmattan
My lips are so dry and I seem to be having some difficulty in breathing!! Visibility could be lower than 200-meters while driving, most surfaces have different layers of dust particles (depending on how often you disturb these layers. My closest friend has bleeding lips, this is now a yearly ritual for him, for which he is least bothered. Sleep should be an uncomfortable act considering the aforementioned feature in harmattan period.
