Avian Influenza Disease Lands in Lagos, Kano.

There was a press conference organised by the Ministry of Agriculture. There the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Akinwunmi Adesina oke the news of recent outbreaks of Bird flu in certain poultries in Lagos and Kano states. He agrees that the disease is under containment and some samples initially sent to the National Veterinary Research Institute, Vom in Plateau state, is now enroute to the international Reference Laboratory in Padova, Italy, for confirmation of the exact strain.
Below are things you should know about this Bird Flu:
1) This disease is caused by Influenza A virus.
2) The most highly pathogenic strain is the H5N1.
3) Companion birds like Parrot do not contract this disease.
4) Pigeons do not contract or spread this disease.
5) Contraction of the avian flu by humans is through handling of infected bird or coming in contact with fluid.
6) Swines are considered the original intermediate host for this organism.
7) Avian flu virus are non infectious for most species.
8) There are vaccines synthesised majorly for this viral condition.
9) Humans are rarely affected by most strains of the avian influenza.
10) A high personal hygiene and boiling of meat adequately before consumptiont,help in preventing of the disease in humans.
