African Myth: LADIES WITH WET VAGINAS ARE PROMISCUOUS

Saturday's episode of Doctors Quarters sit com was quite interesting. Of note was when a young lady was ushered into the consulting room of Dr Effiong by the nurse on duty. She applied caustic soda into a vagina because her boyfriend had observed that she was always very wet, a condition that only promiscuous women or prostitutes have. And to disprove his belief she had to go an extra mile of procuring and applying cautic soda (bicarbonate) into her genital tract

Like other myths in Africa, the above is still pervasive in some communities.
Caustic soda pulls water from the cells causing dryness in the vaginal tissues and tissues of the surrounding structures.

The result could be abrasions, tearing of the vagina during intercourse. There may be other medical conditions like obstruction of the bartholin tracts resulting in cyst formation.
Depending on the concentration of the chemical she used, the bladders, other glands needed for adequate lubrication during coitus would be affected.

Females are usually the victims of these myths. Some say its the men's way of perpetually being above the woman in the society. Be that as it may, i have held that there are always options available to us, even when we think we are in a fix.
Women should not suffer for myths that are not real and are baseless.
