Mala-aria.... Getting it right!!!

Mala-aria was the initial name as it were of that disease transmited by the female anopheline mosquito. The old name means BAD AIR!! The whole world dread this scourge; simply put, it does not respect anybody. What is more is that its mortality rate is astronomical pushing the World Health Organisation to call it a disease of public health importance. Of note is that malaria affects these group of persons most:

          1) Children under 5years of age.                                                                                          

           2)Pregnant women.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      
           3) People who have had splenectomy
           4) People coming to Nigeria having lived in malaria free area
           5) People with sickle cell disorder.
